Okno participates in the
celebration of Art's Aniversary 2006. The 17th of january 1963 Robert
Filliou declared that Art had been born exactly 1.000.000 years ago
when someone dropped a dry sponge into a pail of water....
Art's Birthday Party has never been a formal event but was always
organised
on an ad hoc basis through the network.
Every participating location (and they are different every year)
organises its own party - from a few friends in a private studio to a
performance evening in a museum, gallery or radio station.
For its participation in the celebration of Art's Birthday Party 2006,
okno chose to opt for a 2006-performance of Radio Music, created by John
Cage in 1956. We will actualize the original score by using broadcasts
from internet radios instead of broadcasts by the analogue 1950's Golden
Throat-radio's. The original AM-radio 'tuning-noise' between radiostation
frequencies will be
replaced by the sound produced by self-made antenna's. Audio and
video of this performance will be streamed and participants in other
locations will pick up the stream and use it as an element for their
own creations and vice versa.
"Got the AM sound, got the Radio On!":
Guy De Bievre will give a lecture on the use of radio in the work of
John Cage, focussing on the radio landscape in the 50s.
