<nettime-ann> Translocal Express, Feb 16 Tallinn |
. Translocal Express Date: February 16, 2007. Time: 1 p.m. Venue: Academic Library of Tallinn University, Rävala pst 10, Tallinn. www.biennaleofyoungartists.org A public discussion about the institutional, political and social aspects of current practices of cultural collaboration in the world of contemporary art. The main purpose of Translocal Express is to investigate how are the current debates in relation with the transition from national identity politics to transnational identity discourse affecting the cultural landscape in relatively small national communities. Translocal Express is exploring the changing role of art institutions, as well as artists and independent curators in the situation where contemporary art practices are becoming more and more decentralized and extraterritorial, yet the political and cultural institutions remain to be bound to a certain territory. From this perspective, Translocal Express offers examples for debate in- and outside of the disputable but still operative global-local dichotomy, by discussing alternative ways for production, representation and perception of contemporary art in the working methods of contemporary institutional spaces as well as independent cultural practices. Speakers: Annie Fletcher, independent curator, Amsterdam; Anders Härm, curator at Art Hall Tallinn; Kestutis Kuizinas, director of CAC, Contemporary Art Centre Vilnius; Marita Muukkonen, project coordinator for FRAME, Finnish Fund for Art Exchange, Helsinki. Translocal Express is the first of three events in the Public Preparation series, the public preparation phase for the upcoming Biennale of Young Artists in October 2007 in Tallinn. Public Preparation project is a sequence of informal get-togethers which at the same time constitutes the publicly visible preparation process of the Biennale as well as the course of preparing and educating the public for the Biennale. The seminar language is English.
