A CALL
FOR THE SUBMISSION OF THEORETICAL, ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE PROJECTS FOR THE 1st X0y1 MEETING ABOUT GENDER AND CYBERSPACE (Centro
Andaluz de Arte ContemporÃneo / Andalusian Contemporary Art Centre, Seville,
Spain) The Centro Andaluz de
Arte ContemporÃneo presents a call for the submission of theoretical, artistic
and theoretical projects to participate in the 1st X0y1 Meeting about
Gender and Cyberspace, directed by Remedios Zafra. The meeting will take
place in the second half of October 2009 in the Centro Andaluz de Arte
ContemporÃneo ÂÂ(www.caac.es) and will launch the activities of the X0y1 platform for
research and artistic production about identity construction and digital culture. The aim of the 1st
X0y1 Meeting is to address the relationships between discursive and
artistic practices about gender and the Internet, in terms of the different
political and socio-critical theories that consider the cultural construction
of sexual difference and an online society. The working framework will bring
together contributions that deal with one or more of the following issues: -Gender, Internet and
Biopolitics. -Avatars, sexed
digital phenotypes and metaverses (virtual worlds and online videogames). -Gender construction
in YouTube, the Blogosphere, Google and digital archives. -Gender, creative
industries and prestige systems in Web 2.0. -The politics of
parody and subversion of gender status on the Web. -Post-human,
post-body and post-gender aesthetics and discourse. -The production of
subjectivity and gender in social networks. -Sexuality on the
Internet. -Online constructions
of love. -Gender in digital,
affective and immaterial economies. -Cyberfeminisms. -Physical space in
the construction of gender on the Internet. -Political and
collective articulation; creative projects on gender and the Internet that seek âto improve the
worldâ and which are socially committed. This meeting is
conceived as part of the activities of the ::X0y1 platform for research
and artistic production about identity construction and digital culture:: CONDITIONS OF THE
CALL FOR THE SUBMISSION OF THEORETICAL, ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE PROJECTS ABOUT
GENDER AND CYBERSPACE The object of this
call for submissions is the selection of a maximum of 25 projects to be
presented and debated in the 1st X0y1 Meeting, as well as for
their later publication in the Web platform for research and artistic
production about digital culture and identity construction. This call for submissions
is aimed at artists, researchers, scientists, activists, students, associations
and professionals in the fields of the image, anthropology, communication,
sociology, advertising, cultural administration, computer science or any other
field or intersection of fields not mentioned above whose entry is about gender
and cyberspace. Three types of
participation are proposed: 1. The presentation
of a paper about research work which deals with one or more of the themes proposed in
the call for submissions. 2. The presentation
of an artistic or creative piece of work (net.art, a video or a creative digital project). 3. The proposal for a
technological workshop on gender and Internet (a programming of 4 hours). Entries may be made
individually or collectively, with as many projects being presented as people
might wish, in which case a separate statement will be enclosed with each
entry. The time limit for
receiving submissions will expire on 20 July at
midnight, Seville local time. Each activity that is
selected will be awarded 500 â, which will be paid once the presentation
of the projects has taken place and the requested material has been handed
over. Travelling costs to Seville and daily expenses will be the sole
responsibility of those selected. Similarly, of the
projects presented, the Centro Andaluz de Arte ContemporÃneo will be able to
select one in order to produce and present it publicly during 2010. The Centro Andaluz de
Arte ContemporÃneo will accredit the participation of those selected. CONDITIONS OF
PARTICIPATION All those interested
in participating in this call for submissions must send a summary of the
project they wish to present (maximum 2 pages) and a brief curriculum vitae
using the online form available at www.x0y1.net and by
following the formal recommendations therein. Only applications sent via this
form will be accepted. For a better
assessment of the projects it is recommended that as well as the summary,
participants send the complete text of their research as an attachment or link
to the expanded creative project or workshop, where appropriate. The texts will be
presented, for preference, in Spanish, although those presented in English or
in the co-official languages of the Spanish State will also be accepted, as
long as they are accompanied by a summary in Spanish (minimum 40 lines). A specialist
committee consisting of qualified researchers and administrators will assess
the proposals presented and issue their report in August 2009. Their decision will
be published during the first half of September at www.x0y1.net and will
be communicated personally by email to all participants. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA Among the criteria
that will be taken into account when assessing the projects are: -The interest and
appropriateness of the proposals to the thematic areas of the call for submissions. -The originality of
the projects. -The degree of
development of the works. -The possibility of
publication on the Web. -Their creativity,
degree of complexity and critical contribution. -The participantâs
curriculum vitae. -Technical
feasibility in the case of a workshop entry. THE UNDERTAKING OF
THOSE SELECTED The undertaking of
those selected for their research or artistic/creative work consists of: -The public

Centro Andaluz de Arte ContemporÃneo (October 2009). -Their presence at,
and participation in, the debates deriving from their presentation. -The finalisation and
delivery of the revised text (maximum 6,000 words) or, where appropriate, of
the digital work for publication in the platform in the time limit proposed by
the organisers of the meeting. -The projects will be

selection for X0y1 in any publication or later use of them. The undertaking of
those selected to organise a workshop: -The development of
the workshop chosen as part of the programming of the 1st X0y1 Meeting. -Consultation with
the direction of the Meeting for optimum organisation of the workshop. A publication in
