Regardless of the current atmosphere of departure, being an artist from Iran basically automatically implies that your work will be viewed as being political, since the consequences - personal and socio-economic ones - of the revolution and its related theocracy will somehow be forever present in your creative DNA.
OPEN WALLS Gallery is proud to present the first solo show overseas of Teheran-based artist Romisa Sakaki, a prominent and urgent voice of her generation and member of the always impressive #YPA collective. Her work bridges paintings of a society in change with snapshots of a seemingly carefree time spent with the ones close to her heart, which she captures with a unique colour palette and clear lines.
This particular show presents the second chapter of the fruitful collaboration between OPEN WALLS Gallery and Young Persian Artists #YPA. “Selfies In The City“ will be on display between April 2nd - 23rd, and introduces a representative body of work of Sakaki to the Berlin audience. The artist as well as #YPA founder and curator Mahsa Mergenthaler-Shamsaei will be present at the vernissage.
