This time of year, Winnipeg is very dusty and dirty. All the snow is gone, so all the road sand and salt is piled on the boulevards, choking the grass. Rain is scheduled for this week, and then, possible a little green, but spring won't become pleasant for another couple weeks. The geese are flying overhead - this is a good sign. I like to tell people that Winnipeg really is a city *in the middle*; 1000 km to the nearest large settlement in any direction (Minneapolis, Thunder Bay or Regina) temperatures vary from +30C in the summer to -30C in the winter, and often, the temperature is simply 0.
