Net.art in Venice
The Biennial of New Media

by Marco Deseriis

"Among the wealth of works at the 49th International Exhibition of Art in Venice, enters also art tied to the internet and to new media.  Not to be missed: the Slovenian Pavilion and the Re: Duchamp Traveling Exhibition.

Net.art enters the Venice Biennial.  Or, rather, the Biennial embraces art of the network...

The Re: Duchamp Traveling Exhibition:

The Biennial also has in store other surprises tied to the relationship between Art and New Media.  Among these, the Re: Duchamp Traveling Exhibition, a traveling group exhibition, which includes various exponents of New Media Art, above all of USA origin. Among the artists: Eduardo Kac, Andres Serrano, Jenny Marketou, Mark Amerika, Daniel Garcia Andujar, Paul Garrin, Ken Goldberg, Marina Grzinic, Tina LaPorta, Paul D. Miller (a.k.a. Dj Spooky), and many others.

In the installation, which will open June 9, the works of various artists will be hung on various clotheslines. A tribute to the poetic of the impossible and immeasurable of Marcel Duchamp, who showed his Mile of Rope in New York in 1942.

The Re: Duchamp Traveling Exihibition forms part of the Markers project, sponsored by various cultural foundations such as the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Municipality of Venice. The opening reception will be held June 9 at 11am at the church of  S. Maria Ausiliatrice, 454 Fondamenta San Gioacchin (end of via Garibaldi).  The show will run thru July 14."
