at Barnes & Noble Astor Place

Barnes & Noble Astor Place (between Broadway & Lafayette), New York, NY

Sarajevo, that fabled Balkan city of SE Europe, will be the topic and focus
of the twelfth annual Human Rights Forum event on Thursday, December 6th at
7:30 PM in the upstairs lounge of the 4 Astor Place Barnes & Noble Bookstore
to commemorate International Human Rights Day. Amnesty International-NYC and
Barnes & Noble Booksellers have joined together to commemorate International
Human Rights Day with a reflection on one city's brush with terror and horror.

Leslie Fratkin will be presenting a selection of images from her latest
release Sarajevo Self-portrait: The View From Inside. She will also be
reading selections from the book, as well as signing copies afterwards. Miss
Fratkin, an award-winning photographer in her own right, has compiled the
startling images and words of nine Bosnian photographers-Kemal Hadzic,
Milomir Kovacevic, Danilo Krstanovic, Nermin Muhic, Mladen Pikulic, Nihad
Pusija, Sahin Sisic, Damir Sagolj & Dejan Vekic. These photo-journalists and
artists spent four years capturing the horror, the absurdity and the hatred
that enveloped their besieged city, as well as the humor and even hope.

"These war and postwar images will resonate particularly sharply with
American viewers following September 11."
