<nettime> NSI's New Domain Dispute Policy

Network Solutions has launched "DomainMagistrate: The Online Center for
Domain Name Dispute Assistance" on January 1st, 2000:
http://www.domainmagistrate.com/

"New Dispute Policy Provides for Resolution
The new Policy is effective January 1, 2000. Under this new Policy,
neutral and accredited dispute resolution service providers will resolve
disputes. Here's how the new Policy differs from the old: Under the new
Policy, domain names will not be placed on "Hold." The new Policy applies
to all state and common law trademarks, as well as to nationally
registered trademarks. The new Policy allows complainants to include any
domain name that is confusingly similar to their trademark - as well as
identical to their trademark."

"1. What will happen to a domain name registration which was placed on
"Hold" under Network Solutions' old Domain Name Dispute Policy? All domain
names which have been placed on Hold under the terms of Network Solutions'
old Domain Name Dispute Policy will be reactivated after notice to the
complainant and domain name registrant during the first quarter of the
year 2000, unless Network Solutions receives one of the following: a.a
copy of a complaint filed against the domain name registrant under the
terms and conditions of the new Policy; or b.a copy of a file-stamped
complaint filed in a court of competent jurisdiction which involves the
subject domain name registration and specifically names the domain name
registrant as a party. In such event Network Solutions will deposit
control over the disputed domain name registration into the registry of
the court involved."
