<nettime> GOVERNMENT SEIZES STUDIO B - PLUG PULLED ON B292 |
GOVERNMENT SEIZES STUDIO B - PLUG PULLED ON B292 17.05.00 BELGRADE, Wednesday - In a two-pronged attack at about 0200 CET this morning the Serbian Government seized control of the prominent Belgrade municipal broadcaster Studio B, shutting off its news. The attack also pulled the plug on the programme of independent Radio B292 in Belgrade, whose broadcasts are carried on Studio B's third channel. A press statement signed by Serbian vice-premiers Mr. Vojislav Seselj (leader of the Serbian Radical Party) and Mr. Milovan Bojic (prominent member of JUL) released this morning said that the Republic of Serbia had taken control of Studio B because the station had "repeatedly called for the overthrow of the Serbian government". The director and editor-in-chief of Studio B Mr. Dragan Kojadinovic (member of the SPO), described the act as the "completely illegal takeover of the Belgrade's municipal broadcaster, which shows that the government is practically introducing a state of emergency in the country."
