The Greeks don't want online casinos. So they've banned Space Invaders. If that's not absurd, I have a bridge to sell you across the Thames in London. Very good price. (Unless I've misunderstood. Have I misunderstood? I hope I've misunderstood. I want to have misunderstood. But I don't think I've misunderstood.) > The rest is polemic. Ah, come on. Banning all arcade games because you want to ban gambling games? Why, that's like banning all file sharing because you want to ban file sharing of copyrighted materi... Oh. Shit. Why, that's like banning all file sharing because you want to > ban file sharing of copyrighted materi... Agreed ;-) So lets the courts draw the line. And lets define "completely". To me the most important thing is inhowfar such "completely absurd" laws are obeyed. What do people do? Do they ignore such stuff? As far as it would be applied to space invaders. What is the position of the game industry? Sharing games, had not thought about that but it had also been a topic in Berlin (lan parties..) The ruling is the first of its kind in Greece and sets the courts on a collision course with the state. Legislation passed in July banned people from playing video games in public places like internet cafes as part of a drive to stamp out illegal gambling. The law has been criticised for not making a distinction between interactive gambling and computer games. The court, in its ruling, said the law was unconstitutional. - -- kai ------------------------------ # distributed via <nettime>: no commercial use without permission # <nettime> is a moderated mailing list for net criticism, # collaborative text filtering and cultural politics of the nets # more info: majordomo@bbs.thing.net and "info nettime-l" in the msg body # archive: http://www.nettime.org contact: nettime@bbs.thing.net
