i would argue against the writing analogy; it takes an active desire to publish (or upload) to deliver works to a populus, but populist sites (for video, text, image) are a means (especially for those with little/no web expertise) to fulfilling the communicative end of creativity.

There is nothing wrong, on contrary, and this is what I tried to
communicate: technically YouTube would be a perfect distribution
platform for short films, but not for ambitions of filmmakers and event
makers. Unless there is whole new system of events, awards and critique
will form inside or around it, which is again possible, technically.
