<nettime> Day by Day

Day by Day
a feature of Scroll, the web-site for Art Monthly
www.artmonthly.org.au/scroll

In recent years, artists' canvases have been stretching in new directions.
While new media artists are beginning to explore the possibilities of
online panoramas, old media artists are recovering scrolls. Both inscribe
the artist's place in the world, at that point in time. The scroll as a
reversible linear form is often overlaid with diaristic observations.
Does the artist's diary counterpoint the increasingly abstract form of
life in a media-saturated world?

Is the scroll particularly suited to the experience of Australian
landscape?

Visit the site to see a sample of work by Kate Barnes, Greg Creek, Megan
Jones, Greg Pryor & Susan Purdy. Feel free to leave your comments or
suggest other work that might fit in this genre. The site will evolve with
time so it is worth a return visit.
