hola a todas/os, este manifiesto demuestra que aún quedan norteamerikanos cuerdos: Declaracion publica de los organismos de derehos humanos y libertades civiles norteamericanos realizada por la ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) EN DEFENSA DE LAS LIBERTADES EN TIEMPO DE CRISIS 1. El 11 de septiembre de 2001, miles de ciudadanos perdieron sus vida en el brutal asalto al pueblo norteamericano y a sus formas de gobierno. Lamentamos la pérdida de estas vidas inocentes e insistimos en que los responsables de estos actos han de responder ante la justicia. 2. Esta tragedia requiere que todos los norteamericanos examinen cuidadosamente los pasos que nuestro país debe adoptar para reducir el riesgo de futuros ataques terroristas. 3. Necesitamos considerar todas las propuestas calmada y deliberadamente, con la necesaria determinación de no socavar la libertades civiles que son la base de nuestro modo de vida. 4. Necesitamos garantizar que las acciones de nuestro gobierno sean coherentes con los principios de una sociedad democrática, de un gobierno responsable y del derecho internacional y que todas las decisiones se tomen de conformidad con la Constitución. 5. Podemos, como hemos hecho en el pasado, en tiempo de guerra y de paz, reconciliar los requerimientos de la seguridad con las demandas de las libertades. 6. Debemos resistir la tentación de promulgar propuestas en la creencia errónea de que todo lo que pueda llamarse antiterrorista traerá necesariamente mayor seguridad. 7. Debemos resistir las iniciativas encaminadas a declarar enemigos a las personas por motivo de su raza, religión, origen étnico o apariencia, incluyendo los emigrantes en general, los norteamericanos árabes y los musulmanes. 8. Reafirmamos el derecho al disentimiento pacífico, protegido por la Primera Enmienda, ahora que corre un serio peligro. 9. Debemos aplaudir, en los días venideros, a aquellos de nuestros dirigentes políticos que tengan el coraje de decir que nuestras libertades no pueden ser limitadas. 10. Hemos de tener fe en nuestro sistema democrático y en nuestra Constitución, así como en nuestra capacidad de proteger al mismo tiempo, tanto la libertad como la seguridad de todos los ciudadanos norteamericanos.
