Rodrigo de Toledo (Brazil) and
--->a new ongoing project on "Violence Channel"
entitled "Iraq -the war & post war periode"

The participation in the Salzburg based festival was an excellent occasion
to do this

a) by including another curatorial contribution,
the second one in a seriies and from Spain--->
streaming video works curated by Antonio Alvarado (Madrid)
After he was invited to prepare this contribution,
the terror attack in Madrid happened (11 March 2004).
In this way, this event is manifesting itself also in some of the
artists' very short video works by
Beatriz Caravaggio, Juan Alcón, Antonia Valero,
Fernando Baena, Joaquin Ivars

about the curators and artists can be
accessed via www.newmediafest.org/rrf2004/

c)
by including this new project, entitled
IRAQ - the war and post war periode,
based on an ongoing call in Internet.
The war in Iraq seems to become a never ending story,
based on lies, manipulations and many, many innocent victims.
Iraq, once craddle of the human civilisation is going to be destroyed
completely,
and all traces of the world heritage of culture are going to be erased.

Currently these artists joint the project and are featured
--->
Babel, Andy Cox, Giles Trendle
Amanda Earl, Robert Echen
mIEKAL aND, Darshana Vora

d) by featuring these new additions to Identity Channel
1. Oodlala by Tamar Schori (Israel)
and
2. NanoDramas by Rodrigo de Toledo (Brazil)
.
1. Oodlala by Tamar Schori
www.oodlala.net
The secret life of scattered objects

Oodlala is a browsable data base of interlinked objects that will grow over
time.
The users are invited to upload images of personal memorabilia/memory
objects and sound bits along with the story that accompanies them.
The objects will appear on the site only when they are linked
to an existing object according to found similarities.
The overall experience of Oodlala should resemble fumbling through
Items in a flee market, forgotten drawers, dusty attics etc.Items, linked
and interlinked will not stay mute and reveal underlying hidden stories and
connections.
They will be redeemed from oblivion and forgotten corners of one's house and
will join an ever growing chain of associations that will serve as
the building blocks of a whole new story.
The ability to invent pseudo identities on-line had emptied personal
identifierssuch as name, country of origin, looks, etc. Here a substitute is
offered.
We are no longer concerned with the presentation of a single person
but instead offer a stage for memories, invented or real, that are highly
personal and yet universal. A web of interlinked objects and narrower
circles of
similarities will grow to portray trails of personal identifiers that are
truer than the
conventional identifiers.
The personal desire to commemorate, communicate and participate may fuel
the creation of a contemporary tail that might define a new legend, a new
way to remember.

Oodlala, was inspired by "Linked", a recently published book by
Albert Laszlo Barabasi. "Linked" deals with the new science of networks.
Detailed explanations about the nature and dynamics of nets had prompted
a private quest for the role of hubs in artistic context.
A personal interest in memory and its transformations in
an on-line environment had led to the formulation of this piece.

About the artist
Tamar Schori, is a media artist from Israel,
who participated in numerous international festivals
and media exhibitions.

2. Rodrigo de Toledo
Nanodramas
http://nanodramas.neurondiva.com

The NanoDramas project presents a sarcastic view of certain aspects of
contemporary life. Such as the power of advertising and the pervasive
influence of media on our minds, the consumerism of pharmaceutical products
and the purchase of entertainment. It explores the idea of constructing
one's identity based on the acquisition of images and pre-formulated models
of being, resulting on an increased lack of self-understanding.

Nanodramas is presented as a new product line in a web site, with product
names such as "Pink War", "Nature" and "Rubber Candy". Pills that generate
images which serve as a delivery method for nanodramas memories and
experiences. The pop and consumer product look of the web site is an
intentional parody. The users are seen as potential consumers of fragmented
realities, and appropriators of borrowed identities.

This piece approaches the delivery of Art as a process of experience
purchase and appropriation of the author's memories, which were also
borrowed experiences. The artist as an experience designer, who operates as
a memory reconfigurator and delivery catalyst.

A Monodrama is a dramatic piece written for one actor. A series of
Nanodramas make up one's Monodrama, the internal dynamic theatre play. One's
inner void is the stage. The actor with no defined role, deal with a
fragmented and random script. Identity as a continuous recombination of
nanodramas.

In every living second sensorial impressions are received, some will become
nanodramas, which in turn will be shaped and stored as desires or as
repulsions. An artificial identity is crafted by feeding one's inner void
with nanodramas. Incomplete thoughts, partial dreams, fantasies, pieces of
experiences and bits of visual memories, continuously recombine in short,
evanescent and recurrent units of memories. Those make up dense inner
particles that carry a holographic and emotional representation of one's
history, sense of self and identity.

About the artist
Rodrigo De Toledo is a graphic designer and fine artist, born in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil in 1966.Currently, De Toledo
works at Northern Arizona University as an Assistant Professor of Visual
Communication. The nature
of the projects ranges from digital imaging, interactive and net art,
animation, sound, and painting, or any combination of those.
