ICANN gets its own cartoon

If you ever thought that the political shenanigans of the self-appointed
guardians of the Internet, the ICANN "directors", should be made into a
play or sitcom, you'll be delighted to see this cartoon that a Reg reader
has just pointed us to.

It's a bit low-tech and obviously a first try but still worth a peek if you
know about ICANN and fancy a laugh. In it, Karl Auerbach is a crusader
figure trying to take on the might of Vint Cerf, Louis Touton et al who are
trying to take over the world and make as much money from the Net as
possible - see how reality is cleverly fused with cartoon
other-worldliness? :-)

Jon Postel arrives as a spiritual guide and the rebel alliance attempts to
disrupt the evil conspiracy by, well, pointing out that root servers are
not some mystical device that need some old techie-come-egotists to look
after them. And at the end, the Scooby Doo team turn up for an unmasking of
the evil Sclavos.

Who is it? You'll have to watch. But try to think of someone who seems to
think he can wear four different hats with conflicting interests without
there being any, er, conflicting interests.

Sadly, if you don't know about the ins and outs of ICANN it won't make much
sense to you. Plus, dare we say it, it could do with a little trimming and
tightening. Nevertheless, hats off.
