[Nettime-nl] STEIM Workshop Announcement - CNMAT, Tuesday 28th May

Seminar - David Wessel, Matt Wright, John Schott

Tuesday 28th May, 19.30 - 21.30.

Trained as a psychologist, David Wessel has been at the epicenter of digital
electronic music for more than 20 years. During his time at IRCAM he fostered a
culture of research for generating new musical tools (the most notorious,
MAX/MSP) which is still a model of art and science collaboration. Currently
director of CNMAT, the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies at the
University of California Berkeley, he has sponsored work which ranges from
neural net models of musical timbre, a new protocol for musical communications
after MIDI (OSC), and the design of expressive virtuoso musical instruments.

Joining Wessel for an informal but close look at their latest research will be
CNMAT\'s Musical Systems Designer, Matt Wright, and guitarist John Schott a well
known and composer working in the boundaries between jazz and new music. (His
album, with TJ Kirk, If Four Was One, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1996.)
