STEIM Touch tentoonstelling en ‘Ensemble’
Performance avond ‘Techno Barok & handheld symphonies’ met Matt Wand, 
Thomas Koner en Annelie de Man, Christoph Kummerer, Karl Kliem.


Op 23 en 24 oktober vindt de 2e E-Culture Fair plaats, georganiseerd 
door het Virtueel Platform, waar STEIM in deelneemt. De E-Culture Fair 
is een grootschalig internationaal evenement, waarbij de 'state of the 
art' op het gebied van nieuwe media wordt gepresenteerd. Te zien zijn 
maar liefst 45 projecten die stuk voor stuk een spannende combinatie 
opleveren van installatie, performance en presentatie. De e-culture 
Fair vindt plaats in Paradiso, de Balie en de Melkweg en is geopend op 
donderdag 23 oktober van 13.00 tot 21.00 uur en op vrijdag 24 oktober 
van 10.00 uur tot 18.00 uur.

STEIM presenteert in de E-Culture Fair een aantal nieuwe objecten in de 
STEIM Touch tentoonstelling en het 'Ensemble'-project van Kristina 
Anderson. Op 23 oktober vindt in de Melkweg een performance avond 
plaats die door STEIM en de Melkweg is samengesteld.


STEIM Touch tentoonstelling
Michel Waisvisz, Frank Baldé, STEIM (NL)

Nieuwe ontwikkelingen op het gebied van betaalbare, op gebaren werkende 
invoerinstrumenten voor laptopartiesten, theatermakers, VJ’s en overige 
kunstenaars. Gebaseerd op doe-het-zelf gehackte game-controllers, 
complete met de software ‘junXion’ waarmee het geheel kan worden 
gekoppeld aan bestaande geluids- en videosoftware voor de MAC.


Ensemble
Kristina Andersen (DK), STEIM (NL)

Een koffer vol muziekgeluiden en kinderverkleedkleren. Ieder 
kledingstuk is ook een sensor waarmee je geluiden kunt maken. Het 
bewegen van eenhoed, het rondzwieren met een jurk, het openen van een 
dames tasje in het licht. ‘Ensemble’ is levende muziek door een orkest 
van verkleedkinderen!


Performanceavond: Techno Barok & handheld symphonies
Melkweg The Max, 23 oktober 2003, 21.00 uur

Christoph Kummerer en Matt Wand (Stock, Hausen & Walkman) werken het 
liefst lo-fi, lo-res en lo-cost: gehackte handheld Nintendo’s als tools 
voor een nieuw, maar divers geluid.
Thomas Koner en Andy Mellwig van Porter Ricks zijn de pioneers van de 
ambient techno. De ‘Verlichte Barok’ van Thomas Koner en Annelie de Man 
(clavecimbel) is een versmelting van barok en techno, gebaseerd op de 
overeenkomst tussen de barokke hang naar zintuiglijke genoegens en de 
extatische beleving van hedendaagse techno. Porter Ricks sluit de avond 
af met visuals van Karl kliem (MESO).

Prijs: 10 /7.5  (gratis met dagticket van de fair)
De performanceavond wordt georganiseerd in samenwerking met Melkweg en 
STEIM.

On October 23rd and 24rd  the second E-Culture Fair, that is organised 
by the Virtual Platform in which STEIM participates, will take place. 
The E-Culture Fair is an international event, in which ‘the state of 
the art’ in new media will be presented.
About 45 projects will be presented, each of them an exciting 
combination of installation, performance and presentation. The 
E-Culture Fair will take place in Paradiso, De Balie and Melkweg and is 
opened on Thursday October 23rd from 13.00 to 21.00 hours and on Friday 
October 24rd from 10.00 to 18.00 hours.

STEIM presents a number of new objects of her Touch exhibition and the 
‘Ensemble’- project of Kristina Anderson in the E-Culture Fair.
On October 23 a performance event will take place in De Melkweg, which 
is curated by STEIM and de Melkweg.

STEIM’s Touch Exhibition

New developments in affordable gestural input instruments for laptop 
performers, theatre makers, VJ’s and other artists. Based on 
D.I.Y.hacking of game controllers and providing software –‘junXion’- 
for connecting this to existing sound or video software on the MAC 
platform.


Ensemble
Kristina Andersen (DK), STEIM (NL)

A suitcase full of sound and clothes for children. Each garment is a 
sensor that controls a sound. The position of a hat, the swoosh of a 
dress, the darkness of a lady’s bag.


Performance evening: Techno Baroque & handheld symphonies
Melkweg, The Max, 23 October 2003, 9pm

Christoph Kummerer and Matt Wand (Stock, Hausen & Walkman) prefer 
Lo-fi, lo-res and lo-cost: hacked handheld Nintendo’s as tools for a 
new, and diverse sound. Thomas Koner and Andy Mellwig (Porter Ricks) 
are the pioneers of ambient techno. The ‘Enlightened baroque’ of Thomas 
Koner and Annelie de Man (harpsichord) is a fusion of a baroque and 
techno, based on the resemblance between a baroque longing for sensory 
pleasure and the ecstatic experience of present-day techno. Porter 
Ricks ends the evening with visuals from Karl Kliem (MESO).

Admission: 10 /7.5  (free admission with day ticket to the fair)
The performance evening is organized in collaboration with Melkweg and 
STEIM.
