Computer-Game-based Art, projected king-size:

JULIAN OLIVER (NZ) http://julianoliver.com/
ioq3aPaint is an automatic abstract-painting mechanism built using ioQuakeIII, the community maintained distribution of the game QuakeIII
Arena.ioq3aPaint configures four software agents in perpetual battle as 'brushes',rendering attack vectors as graphic gesture.
Here, the events of battle(every tactic, blast, dodge and death) propogate as a field of surface effects,a painting made from combat.
At anytime the evolution of the output can be manipulated: by pressing the keys of a keypad both the active view and the way new events are rendered can be changed.

JOANE LEANDRE (E) http://www.retroyou.org/
“retroyou R/C, 1999” is a visually compelling work of software-based art in which the artist, in three demonstrable steps, deconstructs the software code of an obscure car racing PC game. In the first hack, “FCK the Gravity Code,” Leandre removes the function of gravity in the game, allowing the cars to float above the ground. By the third iteration, “Butterfly Overflow,” the game's spaces are reworked into a dizzying, hypnotic abstraction.
Though Leandre's variations are significant departures, the original game's architecture remains intact, producing a new kind of experiential environment that the original software was not intended to create, one where the logics of narrative and play have come undone.

WALTER LANGELAAR (NL) http://www.lowstandart.net/
q3a_social_ladder (2006)
In q3a_social_ladder the player has to take on the 'simple' Artificial Intelligence of gamebots, in a level which represents a neverending staircase.
The AI leaves the bots wanting to get to the top, causing them to fight and kill whoever gets in their way, while you can try and beat them or just watch bloody mayhem.

EDDO STERN & JESSICA HUTCHINS (US) http://www.eddostern.com/darkgame.html
Landlord Vigilante (2006)
Landlord Vigilante tells the story of a Los Angeles cab-driver-turned-landlady, who has nothing in life except for her fierce belief in individual freedoms and the marketplace.

JODI (NL) http://www.jodi.org
All Wrongs reversed (1982)
life coding on old ZX Spectrum computer (classic game mods) from early 80's.
