We cordially invite you to the Image Radio Symposium:

Urban Screens: prelude of virtual reality in public space?

Speakers and forum will address the acceleration of new media
penetrating public space from artistic and sociological perspectives.
This phenomenon is also known as Urban Screens.  Consequently
artistic and public participation has become highly significant in
city space design.

The panelists represent different backgrounds and will include
examples and demonstrations in their discussion. An audience Q & A
session will close the symposium, after which a drink in the Van
Abbemuseum restaurant will follow.

The symposium is part of Image Radio 2007, a new festival in
Eindhoven showing new media in public space. A number of experimental
interactive works are featured from Dutch and international artists.
A selection of video and computer art is also being shown.

Speakers:

Mirjam Struppek works as an urbanist, researcher and consultant in
Berlin. With a background in Urban and Environmental Planning, she
has lectured and published essays with a special focus on the
livability of urban space, public sphere and its transformation and
acquisition through new media.

George Fifield is a media arts curator, writer, teacher and artist.
He is the founder and director of Boston Cyberarts Inc., a nonprofit
arts organization, which produces the Boston Cyberarts Festival.
Fifield has written on a variety of media, technology and art topics
for Artbyte, Bomb, Communication Arts, Digital Fine Arts, The
Independent Film and Video Monthly, Sculpture Magazine and Art New
England.

Evert van Loenen is Principal Scientist in the Media Interaction
Group of the Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven. His research
activities are in the field of Ambient Intelligence, where he works
on out-of-the-box application design, natural user system
interaction, context awareness and distributed systems.
