[Nettime-nl] URGENT action tomorrow morning - netneutrality

Hello nettimers,

Mijn excuses dat deze email in engels is,maar het leek mij belangrijk
genoeg om hier te plaatsen.

dank
Claudia

---

Sorry if I write this hastily, there is much left to do tonight.

Today the legal services of the European Parliament transmitted to the
conciliation delegation a customily crafted argumentation saying that:
- - 138 is illegal
- - the horrible compromise proposed by the Council is good
http://www.laquadrature.net/en/telecoms-package-does-the-council-of-eu-hate-freedom
(it is MUCH WORSE than nothing, because it allows to get rid of a fair
trial for the sake of *detecting and preventing criminal offenses* which
is crazy!)

Catherine Trautmann, who leads the negotiations, convened an unofficial
meeting of the EP delegation in conciliation committe, **tomorrow
11AM**, just 2h30 before the trialogue where the negotiation team
(Trautmann, Vidal-Quadras, Reul), will negotiate with the Council.

It is most probable that this unofficial meeting is aimed at asking the
committee to validate the analysis from the legal service, and accept
that the negotiation team gives up on 138 and accepts the dangerous
compromise.

We are currently building a political analysis explaining why this is
the role of the EP to safeguard freedom, and why the compromise is bad,
and why they must adapt the wording of 138 if there are legal problems.

There will be just *TWO HOURS* tomorrow from 9 to 11AM to call all the
27 MEPs from the conciliation committee, as well as their substitutes,
to convey this message and urge them to start the negotiation with 138,
and not with this dangerous compromise.

This mail is for you to be ready to act. More to come very soon.
