Transatlantic Relations: Berlin Meets Tampa is a group exhibition by four
women; Two German, two American, all living and working in Berlin-a
political hotbed, and a historical breeding ground for contemporary
thinking. 

Sabrina Small is a local artist from Sarasota, who has  recently exhibited
at the Tampa Museum, the Art Center, St. Petersburg, and in New York. She
has been living and making art in Berlin over the past year, where she has
met many artists living a similar lifestyle , three of whom, Elyce Semenec,
Sybille Hotz, and Gaby Ray, will exhibit with Small at Covivant this
Saturday evening. 

Though their means and ends are varied, this exhibition as a whole reveals a
sweet discovery of people, places, and passing time. Tempted by the feeling
that they have been there before, viewers are enticed by the familiarity and
uneasy about the unknown.  From playful voyeurism and performance to
schematic depictions of one's pain and rescue, all of these women are
influenced by social and political interactions on a local and global level.
This mixed-media exhibition consists of video installation, stitching,
photography, drawing and painting.

In the Small Gallery:
Last Meal 
An exhibition and photo book about food, death, and injustice.

New York artist, Jacquelyn C. Black has created a powerful photographic
exhibition and book that focuses on death row inmates and what they chose as
their last meal before being executed. Combined with last words of the
condemned, each spread features a photo of the person and what they ate.
Focused on inmates in Texas, some apologize for their crimes.  Others cling
to a claim of innocence.

For this exhibition Ms. Black has created an edition of 12" X 24" diptychs.
All profits from the sale of this work will be donated to the Southern
Center for Human Rights.
In addition, a limited number of signed books will be available at the
gallery.
