Somewhere in the middle of that report, the following assessment
is given of the project:

"Since, beyond filmmaker Michael Benson there was no American
artist on the trip (all those invited excused themselves for one
reason or another), and since the meeting with Mark Pauline had
failed, it became more and more clear that the Journey had
become an introspective research into the problems of East
European artists and art which took place in the cultural and
natural environment of the United States.

The main subject of all the discussions as already started in
Atlanta can be summarised in the conclusion that the difference
between Eastern European and Western art is rooted not in the
realm of individual ability but in the lack of art theory and an art
system in the East."
