From: "Martin S. It is an example of censorship as it is establishing in south east Europe at the very moment. In this case Slovenia is even using the European Union criminal court of human rights as reverence. I am strongly concerned about these developments which could lead to a European version of big brother. The 'big cousin' indoctrination. Because of my personal relations with the group Strelnikoff, I am also able to see the consequences of the motion for indictment in personal life. Money must be raised for layers, community must be informed, promoters of music get scared of negative reactions and the group needs to find support everywhere possible. In other words, they no not only get accused but also exhausted. I would like to ask you to publish about this article or to spread it to your colleagues and friends. Strongly I would like to ask you to send an email of support to Strelnikoff. International awareness of this case might make is more easy for the musicians to fight the intolerant elements inside their own society. I thank you very much for the support. in case you would like to have additional information before publishing please contact strelnikoff: vasja@kad.kibla.org or Peace Office Outpost, Sarajevo POO_MSP@bih.net.ba Greatfully yours, Martin S. Past From: "Curtis F. Doebbler" <curtis_doebbler@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: Strelnikoff Case Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1999 09:40:14 PDT Dear Friends, The Strelnikoff Case is a serious matter from the standpoint of international human rights law. I still remember the day the Otto Preminger Case was handed down and how I thought how that case is going to be very harmful to the freedom of expression. Otto Preminger essentially deals with the competing rights of religion and freedom of expression. The court found--after the Commmission had found the opposite--that the religion of a group of people in one part of the country can stiffle the freedom of expression of others. I hope that there will be many reactions in support of the principle of freedom of expression which Strelnikoff stand for. If you send m the papers from the Strelnikoff Case I will surely write about it and if Strelnikoff fails in the national courts, I would be very interested in representing them before the European Court of Human Rights. I still believe the Otto Preminger Case was wrong and that it may be changed if the most effective human rights arguments are made. I am also happy to speak to the criminal lawyers in Strelnikoff and to any other individuals who are confronted by similar practices of a government authority.
