<nettime-ann> [event] [chicago dec 7] Stop Shopping: The Shopocalypse Tour with Reverend Billy comes to Chicago

Stop Shopping! (before it's too late...)

Reverend Billy and his NYC-based Church of Stop Shopping are taking a
nationwide tour to spread the good word. Mess Hall is proud to tell you
about the following Shopocalypse-related, off-site events:

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2005

Stop Shopping Holiday Parade & Caroling/Book reading event

Reverend Billy and the choir will be leading a parade today in some of
Chicago's bigger shopping districts, sharing anti-corporate/pro-people
holiday carols. Anyone who wants to join in the fun (you'll be able to
borrow a choir robe for the parade) is encouraged to call Mess Hall for
more details. The choir is planning on visiting the big box arena that is
"magnificent" and going for a "mile".

The Reverend is also reading from his new book, "What Should I Do If
Reverend Billy Is In My Store?", tonight at the Left of Center Bookstore
at 1043 W. Granville in the Edgewater neighborhood (just off the
Granville stop on the Red Line). The reading starts at 7:30 p.m. Help
support a great small bookstore on the Mess Hall side of town and join
us!

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2005

The Shopocalypse Revival in Rogers Park!

Come watch a FREE, OFF SITE PERFORMANCE complete with the choir,
musicians, preaching, and more!

Mess Hall is proud to sponsor Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop
Shopping's Chicago performance on the Shopocalypse Tour.

Doors open at 7 pm tonight at our neighborhood's friendliest reconciling
congregation hall...the United Church of Rogers Park.

Join us to see the Reverend preach, the choir sing, live music, and stop
shopping! This performance is free and open to the public.

The United Church of Rogers Park is about 4 blocks west of Mess Hall at
1545 W. Morse. Go to their website at http://www.ucrogerspark.org for
directions and parking information.

If the crowd is willing, everyone is welcome to come back to Mess Hall
after the performance for food and drink and a chance to chat to the
choir "out of the robes and collar". Join us!
