ARTIST IN PUBLIC CULTURE/URBAN SPACE WORKING IN ASIA

Tenured Associate Professor or Full Professor to begin July 1, 2007. 
Rank
and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience based on UC
pay
scales. We seek an outstanding artist who comes from a visual art,
architecture or urban studies background and works across these
disciplines
as a practitioner using Asia as their site of investigation. Candidates
could work within the genres of new media, media, site specific
installation, community-based practices, photography or architecture,
but
more generally they should work with the problematic of the "public" and
the
dynamics between private and public space in Asia. The work may be
single
authored or collaborative.
 
UCSD is a research university that actively promotes and supports
creative
work within a broadly interdisciplinary arts department  that includes
studio, computing, media,  art and media history, theory and criticism.
Teaching will include both graduate seminars and undergraduate courses,
large and small. The candidate will actively participate in the ongoing
development of  the general curriculum as well as our more specific one
in
public culture. MFA or equivalency and teaching experience are required.
