LIGHT, PUBLIC SPACE & MEDIA ART FORUMS

'Light is a messenger', Thursday 6 March 2008, 2.30-5.00pm, Elder Hall,
North Terrace, Adelaide. We are pleased to be partnering with Science
Outside the Square to bring you two 'enlightening' sessions as part of
the Adelaide Festival's Artists' Week.

Hosted by ABC Radio National's 'All in the Mind' presenter Natasha
Mitchell, this two-part event brings together some of Australia's top
artists & scientists to discuss the physics, aesthetics & cultural
ideas associated with light.

Session 1: Seeing the light, 2.30-3.30pm Just what is light & what
makes it such a source of fascination to artists & scientists alike?
Join Natasha Mitchell, Prof Tanya Monro & leading South Australian
artist Robert Hannaford as together they explore the perception,
underst&ing & manipulation of light.

Session 2: Tripping the light fantastic, 4.00-5.00pm Artists &
scientists each manipulate light for their own end. This final Artists'
Week panel brings together artist-scientist collaborators Paula Dawson,
Prof Philip Wilksch, Chris Henschke & Dr Steve Gower, to discuss their
investigations & interactions at the cutting-edge of the art & science
of light.

You are invited to join Elliott Bledsoe from Creative Commons Australia
in a discussion on Open Source Licensing, Public Space & Creativity.

The event is on from 10am - 12pm on Wednesday 5th March at the Adelaide
Festival Centre Artspace, off King William Street.

Presented by Carclew Youth Arts in association with the Adelaide Bank
Festival of Arts & the Australian Network for Art & Technology. This
project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the
Australia Council, its arts funding & advisory body.

The Synergy Project is a Helpmann Academy funded media arts
forum/workshop.

The forum will discuss interdisciplinary processes & creative exchange
within the discipline of media arts. Experts in their specific fields
will give talks about their practice & their experience working
collaboratively within a technological environment & how technology
might inform or hinder the artistic/collaborative process.

Speakers for the forum are; Ross Bencina (VIC); Matthew Gardiner (VIC);
Deb Polson (QLD); Fee Plumley (UK); Melinda Rackham (SA); Danielle
Wilde (VIC);
