Temidden van het politiek debat over openbare veiligheid en
leefbaarheid,  komt een evenement over veiligheid, controle en
nieuwe technologie naar Amsterdam: World-Information.Org.

De opening hiervan vindt plaats op donderdag 14 november om
18:00 in  de Oude Kerk. U bent van harte uitgenodigd hierbij aanwezig te zijn.

Terwijl de bevolking te hoop loopt voor meer blauw op straat, ziet
het boven hun hoofden zwart van de beveiligingscamera's. Met de
ontwikkeling van de wereldwijde digitale netwerken, zijn ook de mogelijkheden
voor toezicht en controle toegenomen.

World-Information.Org stelt de vraag: hebben wij zelf controle op
hoe we worden gecontroleerd?

World-Information.Org biedt een overzicht van de geschiedenis van
wereldwijde communicatienetwerken, de trends in controle van de
netwerken en dat wat in het verschiet ligt. Kunstenaarsprojecten van onder
andere Marko Peljhan, Critical Art Ensemble, Institute for Applied
Autonomy en Arthur Elsenaar en Taco Stolk onderzoeken de grenzen hiervan.

Vind deroute met de minste camera's, observeer satellietcommunicatie,
bescherm uzelf tegen de GSM van anderen!

De WIO Workspace in de kerk is tijdelijk medialab waar
discussies, hands-on demonstraties van de kunstenaars en workshops
plaatsvinden.
Op 6 en 7 december vindt een internationale conferentie over
controle, veiligheid en vrijheid van de netwerken plaats in de Balie te
Amsterdam.

Sprekers op de opening zijn Elly Plooij, lid van het Europees
Parlement voor  de VVD, en Alexander Patijn, raadadviseur van het Ministerie
van Justitie.

De ontvangst is om 18.00 uur. Het programma duurt van 18.30 uur
tot 20.00 uur.

Notabene: in de Oude Kerk is het koud, zorg voor warme kleding.
Gezien het historische karakter van de Kerk, mag binnen niet worden
gerookt.

World-Information.Org is een initiatief van Public Netbase/t0 uit
Wenen en wordt in Amsterdam georganiseerd in samenwerking met Waag
Society, De Balie en het Nederlands Instituut voor Mediakunst,
Montevideo/TBA.

In the midst of the political debate on public safety and its effects
on daily life, an event addressing security, surveillance and new
technology will be held in Amsterdam: World-Information.Org.

The opening night is on Thursday 14 November in the Oude Kerk.
You are warmly invited to attend.

While the citizens continue to hope to see more blue uniforms on
the beat, they instead see overhead the black of security cameras.
The deployment of worldwide digital networks also increases the
possibilities for observation and monitoring.

World-Information.Org poses the question: are we capable of
monitoring those who monitor us?

World-Information.Org presents an overview of the history of
worldwide communication networks, of trends in the monitoring of those
networks and of what lies in the future. Artworks and installations by, among
others, Marko Peljhan, Critical Art Ensemble, Institute for Applied
Autonomy and Arthur Elsenaar and Taco Stolk explore the
boundaries of these issues.  Find the route with the fewest cameras, 
listen in on
satellite communications, and protect yourself from other people's
mobile phones!

The WIO Workspace in the church is a temporary media lab where
discussions, hands-on demonstrations from the artists, and
workshops will take place.  On 6th and 7th December an international
conference on the subject of surveillance, security and freedom of 
networks will
be held in De Balie, Amsterdam.

Speakers at the opening will be Elly Plooij, VVD member of the
European Parliament, and Alexander Patijn, adviser to the Ministry
of Justice.

The reception begins at 18.00 and the program lasts from 18.30
until 20.00.

Please note: there is no heating in the Oude Kerk so warm clothing
is recommended.  Due to the historic character of the Kerk, no
smoking is permitted inside.
