Giuseppe Ielasi is among the vanguard of a new generation of Italian  
sound pioneers, exploring the outer limits of the electro-acoustic  
domain in a wide variety of configurations, moving freely between  
improvisation and composition. As a guitar player Ielasi has been in  
the ascendant for a number of years in the international live  
improvisation scene, among others in collaboration with Taku Sugimoto  
and Dean Roberts, Brandon LaBelle and Thomas Ankersmit. In his solo  
compositions he typically seems to make use of the chiaroscuro- 
effect, looking for a balance between abstract tone experiment and  
melodious song structures. As of late his attention goes out to  
location-specific performances, making use of microphones and a  
multispeaker system to explore the relation between sound and space.

Keith Rowe ranks as one of the main figures within the European  
electro acoustic improvisation movement. Already since the 1960s,  
when he set up the influential AMM ensemble with percussionist Eddie  
Prévost and saxophone player Lou Gare, he has explored the idea of  
“controlled accident”. Mainly inspired by the visual arts, Rowe has  
developed an idiom of his own over the last decades, based on diverse  
‘prepared guitar’ techniques and the manipulation of short wave  
signals. He is a pioneer of the so-called ‘tableguitar’ concept,  
placing the guitar in a horizontal position, dissecting its sound  
potential as if it were a patient in surgery. In the twenty-first  
century Keith Rowe is more active than ever. He counts as the  
thriving force behind the electronic bigband MIMEO and he has worked  
with countless artists of various generations, including Christian  
Fennesz, Toshimaru Nakamura, Günter Müller and John Tilbury.

Giuseppe Ielasi is een van de voortrekkers van een nieuwe generatie  
Italiaanse klankavonturiers, die in allerlei configuraties de  
uithoeken van het electro -akoestische terrein aftasten, zich  
vrijelijk bewegend tussen improvisatie en compositie. Als gitarist  
maakt Ielasi reeds enkele jaren opgang in het internationale domein  
van de live improvisatie, o.a. in samenwerking met Taku Sugimoto en  
Dean Roberts. In zijn solo-composities lijkt hij telkens gebruik te  
maken van het chiaroscuroeffect, zoekend naar een evenwicht tussen  
abstract toonexperiment en melodische songstructuren. Recent gaat  
zijn aandacht uit naar plaatsgebonden performances, waarbij hij de  
relatie tussen klank en ruimte exploreert.

Keith Rowe geldt als een van de belangrijkste figuren binnen de  
Europese elektro-akoestische improvisatiebeweging. Reeds sinds de  
jaren 1960, toen hij het invloedrijke AMM ensemble oprichtte, verkent  
hij het idee van het “gecontroleerde toeval”. Vooral ge•nspireerd  
door de visuele kunsten, heeft Rowe de voorbije decennia een eigen  
idioom ontwikkeld, gebaseerd op diverse ‘prepared guitar’ technieken  
en de manipulatie van kortegolfsignalen. Hij is een pionier van het  
zogenaamde ‘tableguitar’ concept, waarbij de gitaar horizontaal wordt  
gelegd, en als een chirurgisch patiënt wordt ontleed op zijn  
klankpotentieel. Anno 2007 is Keith Rowe actiever dan ooit. Hij is  
bezieler van de elektronische bigband MIMEO en werkte samen met  
ontelbare muzikanten van verschillende generaties, onder andere  
Christian Fennesz en John Tilbury.
