   COVER INTERVIEW WITH SYRUP

   "Syrup", based in New York and Helsinki in Finland, made a
   cover design for this issue. It might be the first time to hear
   their name but Syrup is a group of talented people that deal
   with many projects with top companies. Efforts above the
   average, concept is the most important thing, building up a
   close relation ship with clients... From these words, you will
   see their honest, reliable and upright attitude.


   ECHIGO-TSUMARI ART TRIENNIAL 2003

   "Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2003" is g festival for nature,
   art and human beings that encompasses 762 square kilometers
   in six municipalities of Echigo-Tsumari. The aims of this
   festival are rediscovering the beauty of Tsumari area and
   discovering the wisdom and pride of people through art.


   WRITING

   "Writing - Urban Culture and Beyond" is not only a great
   tribute to street culture but also to graphic design and
   architectural style. Graffiti which was long ignored and
   belittled for its proximity to comic culture has been borrowed
   by various fields such as fashion, packaging, graphic
   designers, and has become a fundamental aspect of the modern
   city.


   FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '03

   The 7th annual biggest open-air music event in Japan, "Fuji
   Rock Festival" was held for four days from the 25th of July.
   This year, the festival featured more than a hundred groups of
   artists and attracted totaling 100,000 people over three days.


   DOTSOSO#17 FEAT. YUTANPO SHIRANE

   The 17th Dot Soso was held at Soso Cafe on (Sat.) the 5th of
   July. The featuring artist was Yutanpo Shirane the illustrator.
   This exhibition under the theme of "PRT (Photo ReTouch) 
   regeneration " will continue, where he retouched photos with 
   a Macintosh computer and made them as painted works.


   W+K TOKYO LAB

   Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo" has launched a new music label "W+K
   Tokyo Lab" to brings new experiences that can only be created
   in Tokyo through a unique global mix of music, visuals and
   other forms of creative expression. The fist artist from this
   label is Masakatsu Takagi. 


   UBERSEE 3

   The third issue of "Ubersee" is out from Die Gestalten Verlag
   in Germany with the theme "Summertime". As usual, the
   magazine is full of works of creators from around the world.


   THE FLINK PAPER

   Received a newspaper with beautiful photos printed on from
   Belgium. First, we thought it was a design paper but it
   actually covers diverse topics from nature, science to
   urbanisation. "The Flink Paper". Of course, it contains
   architecture, fashion and design information as well.


   2003 (7TH) MEDEIA ARTS FESTIVAL

   The aims of this festival are to discover creative artists and
   introduce their creative process. The festival is a gateway to
   success for talented artists who later submit to larger
   competitions. There are four divisions: Art, Entertainment,
   Animation and Manga. Amateurs and professionals are
   encouraged to participate regardless of whether their work is
   commercial or not. The deadline for entries is (Mon.) 20th of
   October.


   ROJO

   ROJO" is a design magazine published by Spanish design team
   "Sintonison". They have recently released their two latest
   issues "Sale" and "Raw". In "ROJO", the editorial team tries to
   approach to diverse genres of art, such as visual
   communication, experimental graphic, fashion, music, plastic
   art, photography, advertising and architecture without any
   text.


   COLORSPLASH CAMERA

   A new camera with a new flash tool "Colorsplash Flash" is out
   from Lomography. The special feature of this camera is the
   new flash tool, called "Colorsplash Flash". Some color filters
   are attached to the flash part, so the coloured light splashes
   as you press the shutter.


   REFILL

   Sydney-based duo "Keep Left Studios" have made a new design
   magazine. "Refill" is the title of this magazine. It has a great
   desire to become a leader in modern international design
   media. As its name suggests, you will find that the magazine
   refills your heart with designs as you turn the page.


   NEWLINE

   "NL (New Line)" is a new brand from SHIFT. This is a
   collaboration project of a designer Hideki Inaba, a graphic unit
   "Mogra" and SHIFT. Sending innovative visual language to
   various media as our message is the aim of this project. Check
   the sesond T-shirt of Hideki Inaba.


   .MOV FESTIVAL 2003

   Noos Movement presents ".MOV Festival 2003" is a digital film
   festival. It will be held under the joint auspices of Hokkaido
   Foundation For Cultural Activities with the aim of digging up
   hidden talented creators and providing an opportunity that
   creators can show their works. We invite all creators in the
   world. The forefront creators will select outstanding works
   from all submissions and these works will be introduced for
   one month in November at the cafe "Soso".


   ART GALLERY BIN

   New gallery space 'BIN' has been launched on cooperation with
   Abahouse International. BIN is a showcase and repository for
   artworks in the digital era. It is intended as a place for
   artists to exhibit and archive their digital artworks.

   their digital artworks. Featuring Andreas Gysin, a freelancer
   in Lugano, Switzerland.


   INFO-WORLD

   What's happening around borderground? Correspondents for
   Shift dwelling on the edge of the world contribute monthly to
   Info-World. Shift presents your direct source from the
   borderground culture of the world.
   Our correspondent in Toronto, Mikey brought the event about
   Burlesque inspired art, Burlesque performance and Jazz music.
   He took part in this event as one of the participated artists as
   well. Mlee in Hong Kong introduced "WE Exhibition" that he
   organised by himself. Check this year's "Love Parade" in Berlin.
   "London Police" is based in Amsterdam and you can check the
   exhibition information of them. Also, check the report about
   "Subverted Boundaries" Exhibition, held in Singapore.


   GIRLS ON THE STREET

   Featuring street fashion photos from all over the world. Heat
   wave is covering all of Europe but Parisiennes are cool and
   cute!


   PRESENT

   Many presents for you this month! Presenting "WE Exhibition"
   picture book for 5 people. "Flink Paper", "Writing" and "ROJO -
   RAW Issue" for one person for each product. The deadline is
   Sunday the 31st of August.
