The proliferation of new media technology throughout contemporary culture
has fostered the position of media art as an important branch of artistic
activity. In many places, workshops and laboratories for the development of
media art projects have been set up or are in the process of being set-up.
Although in each individual case the situation differs due to the political
context, the given organisational structures, and the personality of the
individuals involved, many of these new centres face the same range of
questions: how to define the aim and programme of such a laboratory; how to
decide on certain formats, technical platforms, and possible partners; how
to get and how to finance the hardware; how to create productive yet
sufficiently independent partnerships with scientific research centres and
with industry; how to develop research and development projects with
artists?
Many of the projects proposed by media artists today cannot be realised by
one organisation alone, but need the cooperation with partners for
planning, production, financing and presentation, - cooperations which are
often not only practical, but which also make sense conceptually. At the
same time, it is vital to be able to share resources, technical hardware,
technical and organisational knowhow, and specialists, in order to be able
to make the larger projects at all possible.
This Wiretap programme will bring together representatives of four
important European media art centres. They will present their workshops and
will show projects which have recently been presented there. Special
attention will be given to existing international networks like EMARE and
EAR.NET. The programme offers an overview over international developments
in the field of media art and will make it possible to foster relationships
between artists and the different centers. Dutch artists get an opportunity
to find out about the possibilities of developing their projects in other
parts of Europe.

field of new media. Artists like Michael Saup, Akke Wagenaar or Knowbotic
Research +cF, as well as art students develop their projects in studios for
video, audio, multimedia and 3D-computer graphics. The INM has also set up
a company 'inm-numerical magic gmbh', which takes on commercial commissions
and thus helps to financially support the artistic projects.

Hull Time Based Arts (Hull/Great Britain)
HTBA, founded in 1984 and led by Mike Stubbs, is an organisation of around
70 artists which is dedicated to the production and presentation of
multi-disciplinary art projects that make use of film, video, sound and
music, performance, installations or new media. HTBA organises an annual

V2_Organisatie (Rotterdam/Netherlands)
