PAUL St GEORGE : MINUMENTAL¨ SCULPTURES
http://www.minument.demon.co.uk/

To coincide with the unveiling one of the world's largest public art
monuments (Anthony Gormley's 'Angel of the North' in Gateshead, Tyne and
Wear, UK), artist Paul St George is launching his Minumental Sculptures.

A Minumental is a monumental contemporary sculpture made to a minumental
scale. Minumental and monumental refer to each other by being in
opposition. Minumental is to monumental as white is to black. Minumental
sculptures provide a critique of monumental sculpture by revealing how
their meaning relies on scale and volume.

Minumentals question the supremacy of scale, subvert the authority of
ownership and challenge the condition of uniqueness.

Minumentals foreground the physical experience of sculpture and address
issues of reference and appropriation with reverence and irony.

It is a project that will reconfigure the most significant sculptures of
the 20th century. It will take several years to complete and it is expected
that eventually there will be between 60 or 70 Minumentals. To date 10
Minumentals have been made including Minumental Impossibility, Minumental
Tilted Arc, Minumental Wrapped Reichstag and Minumental Ghost.

Minumental sculptures are portable and collectable. The sculptures are
beautifully made from appropriate materials. Each Minumental sculpture is
10.5 cm. x 10.5 cm. x 10.5 cm. Each Minumental sculpture is one of a signed
limited edition of 250 and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

They can currently be obtained from the Zone Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne
and the ICA and Camden Arts Centre in London.
