What You Can Do To Stop the War In Yugoslavia
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<><><><><>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If you are convinced that the present war in Yugoslavia, being waged by
the United States under NATO auspices, is a ruinous debacle and
must be stopped, you are not alone. Throughout the world people are
drawing the same conclusion.
People are taking to the streets in protest, and a growing movement is
demanding the introduction of sane thinking and alternative solutions.

Here are some things you can do to help end the bloodshed in the
Balkans and work toward peacable solutions while building
community here at home.

- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ----------------------
Educate yourself and your neighbors...
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ----------------------
Find out more about the crisis.
If you have access to the Internet, check out such sources of alternative
viewpoints as www.zmag.org or www.commondreams.org. [Mention any
local media, including alternative papers and radio shows.]

Hold or attend a discussion on the issue.
Invite local activists, academics or residents of Balkan origin to address
the issue. For a list of available speakers or a schedule of upcoming forum
events, use the contact information below.

Write letters to the local papers.
Call local talk shows and remind the public that there are real people
on all sides of this war, and that popular mobilization can put an end to
US/NATO aggression. [include contact info for local media]

- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ----------------------
Take action against the war...
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ----------------------
Organize or participate in a demonstration.
Right now a coalition of local activists is holding demonstrations against
NATO and for a peaceful solution to the crisis. We need more people
involved, whether as planners or participants. To get involved with these
efforts or learn upcoming protest dates, contact us.
[place/time of regular actions if applicable]

Spread the word through direct action.
Those who oppose the status quo's military answer to everything tend
to operate on small budgets, so we need to demonstrate our opposition
by any means available. Use creative methods and tools to decorate
your neighborhood with anti-war slogans and images of aggression's real
face.

Write your congressional "representative." Notify [Congressperson's name]
of your dissatisfaction with the federal government's resort to war.
press [her/him] to enforce the War Powers Act and hault Congressional
support
for the bombings. Demand that the US remain accountable for its grievous
actions by accepting Kosovar refugees through a general amnesty.
