[Nettime-bold] Re: nettime-l-digest V1 #1063

"Still reeling from the largest deflationary shock and the
worst overcapacity crisis since 1929, the great corporate Houses -
excepting the oil and defense industries - see nothing to be gained
from unleashing the dogs of war. After a bullish exile to New York
they returned to Davos last month on their knees, begging to regain
our "trust." The world military Powers, after swearing fealty to the
United States in the wake of September 11, are now facing the
inherent contradictions of their regional interests once again; thus
the dissension within the two primary courts of the transnational
police, the United Nations and NATO. And to make matters worse from
these two viewpoints, the unprecedented success of the February 15
demonstrations finally renders it impossible to ignore the presence
of a new actor on the world stage: transnational civil society, or
better, the Multitudes."

The disturbing thing about this ability to organize in multitudes aka the plebeians is the amount of false information being circulated in the name of anti-war efforts. Today I received another chain letter this one informing me which oil companies and gas stations use middle eastern/ Iraq's oil, the conclusion: only buy gas at Citgo and a few other stations. This e-mail was a lie, circulated by people either ill advised or smart enough to take advantage of anti-war ideologies to increase their sales. Further, I've received several petitions signed by over 500 people which were also fakes, the U.N. is not collecting signatures and neither is the U.S. (although a centralized web site of signatures is a great idea I've yet to see one although I'm sure it exists). Also, anti-war efforts aren't the only protests being held by internet census,

Rally For America is Pro-Bush response to the numerous anti-war rallies intended to show that the political policies of the Carlyle Group that make up George and Cabinet''s views represent the majority of Americans' concerns. The multitudes might be a force to reckon with, but there's several different crowds in the transnational society of net and state and plenty of people waiting to take advantage of this opportunity for their own aims.
