<nettime> New New Thing Jim Clark moves on

(This is part of the final chapter of Netscape... Clark was the big man
behind the Netscape's IPO, back in 1995. Anyone remembers the hilarous
Michael Lewis' book on Clark and how Lewis tried to talk himself out of
the hype he created in his BBC series/book The Future had just happened?
Funny enough The New New Thing is still everyone for sale, as if nothing
happened... /geert)

Jim Clark: Silicon Valley's funk - Business Week

"Entrepreneurial legend" Jim Clark has soured on Silicon Valley, calling
it an "insanely depressing place." Clark pines for the days "pre-1995"
when Silicon Valley was a "vibrant, happening place" -- the period before
the Netscape IPO turned Silicon Valley into "rocketland." Clark is in the
process of divesting all his technology holdings and relocating to
Florida. Despite his negative views, Clark also concedes that the
technology industry will eventually bounce back: "Of course it will.
Technology mutates. New areas of interest and invention and
entrepreneurship [will spring up]. You never know quite where that's going
to be, but I'm willing to bet it's going to be some blend of information
technology with other things."
