And that would be a good thing or a bad thing depending on whether you were
giving or taking direction.

Of course, there are sub-cultures that meet anonymously in darkened rooms.
There, issues of dominance and submission are resolved through far older,
pre-verbal, forms of debate. And perhaps a truer 'sense of direction' is
found.
