reading the multimedia supplement of the french daily Liberation (on
fridays) seems to offer a good skim of what happens (and doesn't happen in
online/offline france.

today there is a feature article about an initiative by Microsoft to train
2000 people and get the Microsoft Professional Certificate here in france -
a project called Competence 2000 which also involves many state and private
higher education institutions.

a short article by Roberto Di Cosmo, (dicosmo@ens.fr) of the Ecole Normale
Superieur summarises his critique of the monopoly that MS has on the
operating systems market and advocates Linux and Unix as attractive
