I think that it's not really a question of whether art is becoming design
or vice versa or somethng: the Ars Electronica Golden Nica prize has been
awarded to something that makes no claims to be art. Linux programmers may
consider themselves to be artful, but I don't think they consider
themselves to be artists - except in the broadest sense of the word. This
means that the jury isn't deciding on what is good, bad or best, small,
medium or large art but are basically deciding what is and is not art. They
are plucking something out of the world and deciding that, henceforth, it
be art. In this sense *they* are assuming the role of the (Duchampian)
artist, and they're using all those programmers and that programming as
their readymade.

I have no complaints.
