Het Poortgebouw is klaar voor de storm. De Vereniging Poortgebouw is een 
erkende woongroep van ±30 bewoners en al 22 jaar lang de wettige huurder 
van dit Rotterdams monumentenpand. Een uniek sociaal experiment wordt nu 
bedreigd met ontruiming, om plaats te maken voor het zoveelste prestigieuze 
kantoor. 

Projectontwikkelaar "De Groene Groep" heeft de hand weten te leggen op het 
Poortgebouw. Voor de prijs van een luxe appartement. De bewoners zelf 
hadden het ook nog wel kunnen betalen samen, als ze de kans hadden gehad Te 
koop? Hun huis? Dat horen ze pas als het verkocht is. De nieuwe eigenaar 
heeft ideeën met het gebouw waar de bewoners niet meer in passen. 

Het Poortgebouw biedt een vrijplaats voor internationale kunstenaars, 
musici, studenten en mensen uit vele andere beroepsgroepen. De bewoners 
delen niet alleen een gebouw maar ook een levenswijze: gezamenlijk 
problemen aanpakken, kennis en kunde delen, elkaar inspireren en elkaar 
bijstaan. Van een verwaarloosd monument maakten zij een ontmoetingsplaats 
voor maatschappelijke, culturele en politieke discussies en activiteiten 
waar anders in Rotterdam geen ruimte voor zou bestaan. Informatie over de 
bijzondere geschiedenis en activiteiten van de Vereniging Poortgebouw is 
beschikbaar op de website http://www.poortgebouw.nl . 

De ondertekenaars van deze petitie betuigen hun steun aan de Vereniging 
Poortgebouw. De waarde van deze levende gemeenschap is van meer belang dan 
de zoveelste speculatiewinst. Het Poortgebouw is een investering in de 
rijkdom van maatschappij en cultuur, van wijk en stad. Een Rotterdam zonder 
Poortgebouw is een armer Rotterdam. Het Poortgebouw moet blijven.

English Version

The Poortgebouw is ready for the storm. The Vereniging Poortgebouw is a 
recognized living group of ±30 residents and the legal renter of one of 
Rotterdam's most distinctive buildings for the past 22 years. A unique 
social experiment is now threatened to be emptied out to make way for yet 
another luxury office. 

A property developer called the "Groene Groep" managed to get its hands on 
the Poortgebouw for the price of a single luxury apartment. A price the 
residents could easily have afforded, if only they had been given the 
chance. For sale? Their house? They didn't find out until after it was 
already sold. And now there’s no place for the residents in the new owner’s 
plans. 

The Poortgebouw offers a free haven for international artists, musicians, 
students and a broad range of other professionals. The residents share more 
than just a building. They share a way of life: solving problems together, 
sharing knowledge and skills, mutual inspiration and mutual support. They 
turned a once forgotten monument into a meeting point for non-profit 
social, cultural and political discussions and activities that might 
otherwise not have a space in Rotterdam. Information about the 
extraordinary history and activities of the Vereniging Poortgebouw is

The signatures on this petition are a statement of the local and 
international support and solidarity with the Vereniging Poortgebouw. The 
value of this dynamic community clearly outweighs that of just another 
speculation profit. The Poortgebouw is an investment in the wealth of our 
society and our culture, of our neighborhood and our city. A Rotterdam 
without a Poortgebouw is a poorer Rotterdam. The Poortgebouw must stay.
