'Can we take that serious' on the role that art can play in urban renewal
With her projects visual artist Jeanne van
Heeswijk moves between the various levels of
inhabitants, designers, but also commissioners.
And although people think these projects are
interesting, nice and also important, there is
always the question 'can we take that seriously'?
A question that mainly comes up if the
responsibility of the person or organization is
at stake.
With this question Van Heeswijk directly touches
the role a visual artist can play in the often
strongly directed process of urban renewal and
revitalization. In her lecture at the Netherlands
Architecture Institute she will go into this role
by using recent and ongoing projects like 'The
Blue House' and 'Face Your World' as a practical
example.
Jeanne van Heeswijk (1965) is a visual artist.
Her projects distinct themselves through a strong
social involvement. Van Heeswijk stimulates and
develops cultural production and creates new
public (meeting-)spaces or remodel existing ones.
She often works closely together with artists,
designers, architects, software developers,
governments and inhabitants.
