The Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP)
(Brooklyn NY)

The Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP) seeks Executive Director

The Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP) is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization that uses the power of art and visual culture to increase the quality of public participation in urban planning and community design. CUP specializes in creating interdisciplinary collaborations that bring together designers, educators, advocates, and community residents to improve urban life in New York
City and beyond.

CUP projects begin with questions about how cities work: Who built public housing? Why are neighborhoods declared blighted? What are street vendors’ rights? Collaborators use a research-based, design-driven process to create
inventive tools for community participation and change.

Youth Education Programs offer middle and high school students experiential, project-based learning opportunities. Annually, CUP works with more than 500 New York City public school students through teaching artist- classroom teacher collaboratives, in-depth urban investigation courses, and partnerships with
high schools.

Community Education Programs work with organizations to make complex policy issues accessible to lay audiences. CUP connects advocates with designers to develop educational materials—posters, videos, workshops, installations, and public presentations—that reach diverse audiences locally, nationally, and
internationally.

The Executive Director will be responsible for supervising all aspects of the organization and will have the primary responsibility for program development and fundraising to support and grow the organization’s $250,000 budget. The
Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience increasing the
