Subject: Richard Holeton _FIGURSKI AT FINDHORN ON ACID_

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
6 September 2001

Eastgate Systems Publishes FIGURSKI AT FINDHORN ON ACID

WATERTOWN, MA--Eastgate Systems, the premier publisher of hypertext and
hypermedia in the United States, announces the publication of Richard
Holeton¹s FIGURSKI AT FINDHORN ON ACID, a hypertext screwball comedy about
one man's quest to authenticate a seventeenth-century mechanical pig
discovered washed up on the beach at Findhorn Park.

    http://www.eastgate.com/catalog/Figurski.html

Published by Eastgate for distribution on CD-ROM, FIGURSKI AT FINDHORN ON
ACID is the story of Frank Figurski, a post-doc with a murderous past who
becomes obsessed with verifying the authenticity of an antique mechanical
pig. Frank¹s porcine quest is hindered by the interventions of a no-hands
cup flipper and a sly journalist, and by the fact that Figurski's on acid.
FIGURSKI AT FINDHORN ON ACID is a hypertext, a collection of interactive,
interlinked documents through which readers create their own routes and
connections between characters, objects, times and places. FIGURSKI AT
FINDHORN ON ACID allows for many possible plots and outcomes and each
reading is potentially unique.

Holeton's hypertext belongs in the tradition of screwball comedy, but it
raises that tradition to the level of metaphysics-a cross between Borges
and the Marx Brothers.--Michael Tratner, Bryn Mawr College

Holeton will give a reading of FIGURSKI AT FINDHORN ON ACID on Friday, 14
September 2001, at Stanford University. This event is hosted by Academic
Computing and Stanford University Libraries, in association with
eNarrative 3, an Eastgate-sponsored conference in San Francisco on Sept
15-16 (http://www.eNarrative.org ).For more information about the reading,

Subject: Cuba's Only Independent Artist - Run Gallery Goes On-Line

(VERSION EN ESPAñOL VIENE DESPUES DE LA VERSION EN INGLES)

El Espacio Aglutinador is the longest running independent artist-run space in
Cuba. It was established in 1994 by Sandra Ceballos and Ezequiel Suarez in
their apartment in the Vedado section of Havana. Now operated by Ceballos and
Rene Quintana, El Espacio Agluntinador has been an important focal point for
the creation and maintenance of independent culture in Cuba. Since 1994, the
gallery has hosted over 30 solo shows and four group exhibitions for artists
from the island, as well as from Europe and the United States. The gallery
has published numerous catalogues and provided a venue for several literary
artists as well.

El Espacio Aglutinador has an email address but as of now, no direct access
to the world wide web. The gallery directors want to develop means of
familiarizing Cuban artists on the island with new technologies and seek
support from the international artists community in order to do so. Starting
today, information about the gallery and its history is available at the
following URL:

www.thing.net/~cocofusco/espacioag.html

Subject: Correction to 'Metamute Meets Echelon' mail

Here is the posting with the correct word list for the Metamute Meets
Echelon literary competition. The last list was inaccurate since the find
and replace function mistook the paragraph symbol for a p, and hence took
out all the 'p's.

to quote my colleague Simon quoting that computer of computers:

'100% reliable the HAL9000 is the most sophisticated computer ever built
the only errors the machine makes are human'

Best,

Josie

Kleiner Hinweis: Unter der URL

        http://www.westermayer.de/till/uni/parteitag-im-netz.pdf

[Under the URL named above you'll find my sociological thesis about the so
called Virtual Party Convention of Alliance 90/The Greens Baden-
Wurttemberg. The thesis is in german, so I found it appropriate to write
the announcement in german, too.]
