"Yesterday morning Carolyn Parker Mayes, the Director General of the
Cultural Bureau of Homeland Security ordered the closure of White Box.
Earlier today, in an interview on NPR, Carolyn Parker Mayes stated that the
exhibition space at White Box was used for illegal activities and events
that Œpose a threat to national security1. Below is a link to the online
version of the Order of Closure, they also forced me to post a copy of
it on
the window and entrance of the space.

Dear All:
As most of you have probably realized, the e-mail I sent out on friday the
13th was not real. I got the e-mail after waking at 7, jetlagged, and was
so shocked by it that I didn't double check it, always a bad idea.
Sad to say, in this year of huge loss to American civil liberties, I
initially believed the e-mail because it was so close in fact, to reality.

I think now is a time to be discussing real and physical action. So I
would throw out the question (not meant rhetorically or abstractly) what
shall we do? Each one of us. And together.

Best,
Shelly.

Subject: Nettime should be an Industry list

The people who read Nettime are primarily involved
in the industry. I think Nettime should become more
of an industry list.

There are lists that handle the creative and critical
aspects with greater focus. Industry issues public/private
sectors are not discussed with such focus.

NE thoughts?
