MA MEDIA DESIGN PROGRAMME

Opening: Friday, 29th | 19.00 - 22.00hrs
First year final show: "makedo"
Project Leader: Kristina Andersen

The "makedo" exhibition shows works of the first-year M.A. students. The works are the result of a trimester project, taught by Kristina Andersen, on hardware hacking and the construction of physical technological objects.

Turning away from flickering screens, the group has built a number of interesting and strange media devices from scratch - a slide projector interfacing with flickr.com, a telephone providing a forum for comments and critique, a vehicle that takes "movable type" literally, an oracle based on Nettime, wearable lights, a typewriter transformed into a text cut-up machine, experiments in remote sound and an interface that records our movements as we struggle to free ourselves from constraints.

These objects vary from high to low tech, old and new media; but they are all attempts of creating tangible expressions of computational data.

Participating artists: Linda Hilfling (DK), Annemieke van der Hoek (NL), Maria Karagianni (GR), Ricardo Lafuente (P), Ivan Monroy Lopez (MEX), Michael van Schaik (NL), Danja Vassiliev (RUS) and Sofian Audry (CDN).

"makedo" was run with the kind support and help from the V2_lab, MultimediaN, and STEIM Institute for its lending us various bits of hardware.

Location: V2_, Institute for the Unstable Media | Eendrachtsstraat 10, Rotterdam
continuing Saturday, June 30th | 11:00-18:00hrs

PIET ZWART INSTITUTE MEDIA DESIGN INVADES WORM
Hacked web cookies, data-mined business relationships between hardcore music and Rupert Murdoch, reflections on death and media, filtered and unfiltered bareback porn, computer generators taking over web design, breakcore performance with hardware- and software-hacked tools, algorithmically augmented political leaders, the perforation of the WORM building by Second Life objects copied into Google Earth, all wrapped up into a real time-printed mutogenical catalogue: expect this and more when Piet Zwart Design students take over WORM on all floors with their graduation show.
