Syndicate: CO++ in Sofia, BG

Dear Syndicate friends,

CO++, also known as Crossing Over II, Mini-International Festival of
New Video Art, is lingering in the sizzling Sofia air. Indeed CO++ is just
round the corner beginning from June 23 till July 3, 1997.
All CO++ sessions will be mastered by Nina Czegledy and will
take place at two host venues: Audio-Visual Center,
NAFTA & Computer Art Center, SSCA in Sofia.

The initial purpose of Crossing Over I/II was to establish a mini-framework
within which East European artists will be able to develop and implement
experimental projects using digital studio facilities. The basic and
still persistent hindrance to any East-European video and media artist
- the access to proper high technology or knowledge of alternate
production technologies - has been thoroughly explored in CO+ and
CO++.

The immediate goal of the pilot 1996 project Crossing Over I was
to foster prospective contacts, discuss various production
possibilities and end with clear-cut videoart concept & production
strategy. In achieving this aim 6 East-European participants have been
selected by the CO+ Workshop master who collaborated with their 10
Bulgarian peers within an intense fortnight programme comprised of a
theoretical workshop during the day and international video
screenings and public talks of 4 CO+ lecturers in the evenings.

Few months later CO++ aims at implementing the production of 9
videoart projects, approved by Nina Czegledy. There are 3 guest-
participants like Branka Milicic-Davic, Novi Sad, Yu, Denis Neimand, St.
Petersburg, Ru and Darij Kreuh, Ljubljana, Slov who are committed to
work hard and overhours alongside 8 local media artists like Odiliya Yankova,
Krassimir Terziev, Ivan Mudov, Elena Belova, Iliya Bekirov in team with
Velimir Velev and Tsvetelina Gancheva in a team with Rashko Kovachev.

CO++ will provide an electronic catalogue which will document the events of
Crossing Over I and II and open a venue for critique by renowned media curators
and for broad/narrowcasting of the works. Moreover a CO case-study with
premier screenings of the works is scheduled within the International Media
Forum, OSTranenie, Dessau, Germany in November 1997.

CO is curated by Iliyana Nedkova, based at the Soros Center for the
Arts, Sofia. CO is funded by the Open Society Cultural Link Regional
Programme.

WWWith Hot Greetings,
Yours,
Iliyana Nedkova
